Melanie Hammet: Calendar
| Apr 10, 2010 | Pine Lake Clubhouse Pine Lake Georgia |
On April 10th Melanie Hammet released her fusion of art and ordinance (http://edificecomplex.net/) with a concert that featured Ben Holst's performance of "Little Boxes" and Cindy Diamond/Ann Duckworth's version of "Big Yellow Taxi." The show included delicious food, killer harmony, music about street design and neighborhoods. There were automobile fenders and motorcycle helmets standing in as percussion; there were jokes about urban planning (well, just the one). Children sat in the front row wearing tiaras and clapped enthusiastically to a rhythm that only they could hear . . . (vaguely related to the songs being performed). Oversized painted flowers created a kind of yellow brick road that ringed the Clubhouse, transforming our scruffy public space into a Wonderland. |

Another great venue---how can it be bad if it's full of books? David was "on," talking about the history of his story in the very place it happened. I followed with music that scored and underscored the themes of his book: "Hammer," "One Seventy Five," "I Dream Wild Horses"---to name a few. |

A great time! "What Happens Next" turned into an instant sing-a-long and I can barely play it. |
